Apple Expands Keyboard Repairs to Newer Models of MacBook

Apple said on Tuesday it will fix typing-related issues in ‘butterfly’ keyboards for an extended set of laptops, that incorporates newer versions of MacBook, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro models.

“Apple has determined that a little level of percentage of the keyboards in certain MacBook, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro models at least one or more of the following behaviors” – letters or characters repeat startlingly, fail to show up, or keys that feel “sticky” and do not react in a consistent way, Apple said in a post on its Support site.

Apple has verified that a small percentage of the keyboards in certain MacBook, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro models may show at least one or more of the following behaviors:

  • Letters or characters repeat out of the blue
  • Letters or characters do not show up
  • Key(s) feel “sticky” or do not react in a consistent way

“Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider will support eligible MacBook, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro keyboards, free of charge. The kind of service will be resolved after the keyboard is inspected and may include the replacement of one or more keys or the entire keyboard,” the post included.

  • MacBook Pro (13-­inch, 2017, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports)

  • MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2018, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports),

The company has gone under criticism on social media and Apple-centric blogs and sites for the issues identified to its keyboard. Last June, the organization said it would fix keyboards on few models, and the declaration on Tuesday extended the models to incorporate more recent ones.
