Apple Products May Get Pricier With New 15% US Tariff on Chinese Products

Some Apple items such as AirPods, Apple Watch, HomePod, and iMac computers were probably to get costlier as the new 15% US tariffs on Chinese items became effective from Sunday. Apple has its items assembled by Foxconn and different ODMs in China.

“For items secured by Annex A of the August 20, 2019 notice (84 FR 43304), the pace of extra obligation will be 15 percent on the current powerful date of September 1, 2019. For items secured by Annex C of the August 20 notice, the pace of extra obligation will be 15 percent on the current compelling date of December 15, 2019,” read the announcement from US Federal Register.

Apple iPhone models may likewise be around $100 more expensive in the US once the following set of 15 percent tariff comes into place from December 15.

Apple CEO Tim Cook as of late disclosed to US President Donald Trump that taxes on China will help South Korean tech giant Samsung acquire as it doesn’t have to pay any taxes.

Trump, in a discussion with journalists, said he has “had an awesome gathering with Cook.”

“I have a great deal of regard for Tim Cook, and Tim was conversing with me about levies. Also, something, and he put forth a decent defense, is that Samsung is their main rival, and Samsung isn’t paying taxes in light of the fact that they’re situated in South Korea,” Trump told the media.

The ongoing trade-war between the US and China has caused Apple’s iPhone production expenses to rise as much as 3% because of the new retaliatory tariffs imposed by Beijing.

Trump prior met Cook during a dinner, saying that Apple would be spending “immense sums of money in the US.”

“It’s extreme for Apple to pay taxes if they’re contending with a very good company that’s not. I said, How great a competitor?’ He said they are a generally excellent competitor. So Samsung is not paying taxes because they’re based in a different location,” said Trump.

Samsung has most of its assembling base in South Korea and Vietnam.

iPhone sales in the China, US and other markets could fall by 8 million to 10 million,” CBS News detailed earlier this month.  Apple XS Max begins at $1,099 and new 10 %  taxes would mean a roughly $110 hike.

In May, a Wedbush examiner Dan Ives as telling investors that taxes on the gadgets Chinese-made batteries and different components would increase Apple’s assembling cost by 2 to 3%.
