The Samsung Galaxy Note 10 will arrive shortly and will be available in two different versions, both high-end phones with an S Pen: the Note 10 will be the slightly dimmer version, while the Galaxy Note 10+ will be the true “Model” show “off” with a larger battery, 5G support in some markets, a camera with flight depth and up to 12 GB of RAM with 512 GB of built-in memory.
But the main talk of today’s article is a feature that excites me particularly is the Bixby button that Samsung has eliminated in both versions of the Note 10.
Yes, you read that right: two and a half years after Samsung introduced the Bixby virtual assistant along with the physical button of the Galaxy S8 series in 2017, it seems that the company has finally realized that nobody wants that button and the only thing does it it’s getting in the way and turns up several times when you accidentally press it instead of the power button.
Why Nobody Wants Bixby Button
The problem with Bixby seems to be that, although it is capable of some specialized functions such as, for example, you can tell it to perform a complete sequence of actions, it has not been as fast or well-informed as rivals like Apple Siri or Google Assistant. And the people didn’t seem to use it as happily as those other assistants.
In fact, it seems that Samsung has retired when it comes to pushing Bixby in front of and at the center of his phones earlier. At launch, in 2017, Samsung has not allowed reassigning the Bixby button, which silences the efforts of third-party apps in order to provide some features besides the Bixby assistant. With the Galaxy S10 series, we saw how Samsung softened and allowed us to reassign the button. With the S10, for example, you can adjust the button so that a click action doesn’t open Bixby, but start a completely different app, a big step forward (you would still have access to Bixby with a double click, it wasn’t possible to completely disable the assistant).
With some fairly extensive leaks of the Galaxy Note 10 series, we can now safely say that Samsung seems to turn its back completely on the Bixby button on the phones since the key is not present in any of the leaks. Furthermore, we are not sure what will happen with the Bixby assistant functionality in general.
Bixby On Wearables Is A Different Topic
It is worth noting that Samsung seems to continue to push the Bixby assistant into its wearable devices. We saw Bixby’s assistant in the Galaxy Watch Active, an inexpensive smartwatch launched by Samsung in the spring, and it is said that a successor to that device will soon arrive with Bixby’s extended functionality. So, we hope the assistant stays, we are not very sure of his presence on the phone.
