We have heard several rumors that Apple is working on a new MacBook Pro 16 to 16.5 inches since the analyst Ming-Chi Kuo floated the idea and now a new report makes Samsung in talks with Apple on building the new display for the new computer. According to the report, those displays are OLED.

The report itself is offered by the Korean site The Elec, which is not one that has a history of providing information on these things, correct or not. With this in mind, it’s always worth taking it with a pinch of salt, at least for now.

“According to industry sources, Apple is considering adoption of OLED displays in its high-end “pro” models of notebook and tablet PC product lines. The new 16-inch ‘MacBook Pro’ with OLED display will be added to the notebook lineup and the existing 11-inch ‘iPad Pro’ display from LCD to OLED.”

MacBook Pro And The New Mini-LED Technology

It was suggested by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo that the new MacBook Pro models have been coming for some time in 2019. He didn’t mention the display technology at the time, although he said it in following that a 15- to 17-inch MacBook Pro would be launched with the new mini-LED technology in 2021.

It is possible for this time that the new Elec report is a combination of both, although it is difficult to really know what is happening, especially for a product that may or may not be two years out. The new report also indicates that Samsung is producing OLED panels for the new iPad Pro models and, once again, Kuo had the mini-LED tablets to arrive at the end of 2020 as soon as possible.

As always happens with these kinds of voices, we have no choice but to wait and see how things are going. The idea of a MacBook Pro OLED seems interesting because of all the advantages it offers, but again, we’ll see how things develop.
