Instagram has worked to improve the message side of your app. It could be a place to share photos, but it is also slowly becoming a messaging platform for many users. We’d be lying if we said that messages aren’t something everyone is getting into and that Instagram is no different. The latest feature that will be added to the app allows you to send audio messages on Instagram.
Audio messages on Instagram
Make sure you are running the latest version of the Instagram app on your phone. This feature is available for both iOS and Android and works only via direct messages.
- Open the Instagram app.
- Tap the top paper plane button. It will redirect you to the Direct Messages screen.
- Start a new chat or tap on an existing one. In the text entry field, you will see a microphone icon. Press and hold to record an audio message.
- When you release it, the message will be sent.
There are no apparent limitations on the duration of a video message and whether it will expire or not after a certain period of time. At present, the function is implemented with little attention to convenience. If you look at the same function in WhatsApp, you’ll see that you can record voice messages in a hands-free mode which greatly simplifies use.
Instagram has been working for some time to improve the social aspect of its app. It routinely copies Snapchat’s features so that its main function, image, and video sharing, is more interactive, but has introduced new ways for people to connect quickly.
It introduced the nametags in October which are basically QR codes for the following users. The strange thing is that this function appears after the introduction of video chat. Since June this year, Instagram is not only compatible with video chat, but also with group video chats. Audio messages may have arrived earlier, but regardless of the sequence, they will be useful.
Instagram is owned by Facebook and the company always tries to break the market in apps for sharing photos and messages. Given that it has Instagram and WhatsApp, and of course Facebook Messenger, it’s safe to say that it has the monopoly you want. Facebook has been in the news for violating the trust and confusion about user data and privacy, so if people finally leave the platform, they will look for alternatives. It helps if Facebook already has the popular ones.
